Dick Portillo began specializing in restaurant chains with a hot dog stand called, The Dog House in 1963. Throughout the years, Dick Portillo founded and developed Barnelli's Pasta Bowl, Honey-Jam Cafe, Luigi's House, Portillo's Home Kitchen, Julian's Piano Bar, and Julian's Plaza. Portillo's restaurants primarily operate throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. In total, Portillo's portfolio consists of nearly 50 restaurants, over 4,000 employees, a catering and shipping division, and a shopping center. The Portillo Restaurant Group stands as one of the largest privately owned restaurant companies in the Midwest, with headquarters stationed in Oak Brook, IL.
