Solon Scott Sr. founded Scott Petroleum in 1935 with a base location in Itta Bena, MI. As a distributor of liquefied petroleum gas, Solon Scott Jr. joined the company in 1957, and later earned presidential status in the business. Due to expansion, the petroleum company grew to nearly 14 bulk plant locations spanning across North and Central Mississippi, Southeastern Arkansas, and Northeastern Louisiana. Over the years, the large company also expanded product lines to include gasoline, diesel, bio-diesel, kerosene, equipment, aviation fuel, attendant fittings, and appliances.
