Routinely referred to as UPPCO, Upper Peninsula Power Company operates as a Midwest subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group. The long-standing electric company incorporated in 1947 before joining the Integrys corporate umbrella in 1998. Serving upwards of 52,000 customers in northern Michigan, UPPCO manages 10 generation facilities, including seven hydroelectric plants and three gas/turbine oil plants. The power plants maintain the generating capacity to produce over 80megawatt hours of electricity to cover roughly 4,400 square miles. Nearly 60 substations connect around 3,300 miles of distribution lines used to transmit the energy.
